On the 24th and 25th of October 2013, it was held, in cooperation with CMIA in Viana do Castelo the course "Techniques for censuses coastal birds and marine mammals", under Action E5 - Training programs for technicians , volunteers and other stakeholders of LIFE + MarPro Project.
Attended by 12 participants belonging to different fields of study, namely: environmental consultancy, biology, architecture, monitoring of fisheries and environmental management.
The session addressed the following theoretical topics:
- Identification of key species through their morphology , phenology , behavior and flight pattern (in birds);
- Information to be collected during the coastal census;
- Appropriate methods for the use of binoculars , simple and binocular telescopes;
- Environmental factors and limitations;
- Methodologies for data collection during the observations;
- Counts of large groups of animals.
During the practical session, held at Praia da Amorosa (beach), trainees applied the knowledge acquired in the theoretical component regarding the identification of target species and the counting methodologies.Here are some photos of the event:
