The European Commission has recently published an oficial document on the Natura Projects entitled "Life and new partnerships for Nature Conservation". This document explores the success cases of the partnerships between Life+ projects promoters and the different stakeholders interested in finding solutions to improve the management of the Natura 2000 network. At the same time, the document suggests innovative ways to develop partnerships that can contribute to the effective implementation of the Natura 2000 network and the conservation of its species and habitats.
In this document João Pedro Silva (Nature and Biodiversity Senior Expert) presents a text on the relation of the Life+ MarPro with the National Maritime Authority. This relationship has been going on since 2000, and it is considered a unique case in Europe, has it envolves NGO's, Universities and the National Maritime Authority. It emphasises the Maritime Policy Corps, whose collaboration has been essential to ensure the smooth operation of the Stranded Marine Animals Network and the support it gives in the rescue of live stranded marine animals needing care in marine animals rehabilitation centres.
