Karmenu Vella, the Environment, Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Commissary, manifested the intention of actively involving the European Commission in the process of the International Ocean Governance. The main motivation is to ensure that our oceans are safe and that their resources are managed sustainably. The first step in this process is to launch a consultation of the stakeholders, both within the EU and internationally, about the most relevant issues where improvements are needed and what the EU may do. The main objective will be to gather contributions that could support future policymaking and its corresponding actions.
This consultation was announced by Commissary Vella at the World Ocean Summit, on the 4th of June, and the deadline for contributing is the 15th of September.
